This listing is for 1 frame gauge for use in checking for a possible refinishing of a first generation Colt Single Action Army. It is made of an aluminum alloy that is soft enough to prevent damage or marks on the subject frame but strong enough to hold its original precision shape and size. The second and third photos show an original frame with the gauge lined up even with the leading edge of the trigger guard. The fourth and fifth photos show a possible refinished frame where there is at least a 1/16” of the trigger guard that extends beyond the gauge. Guns are usually cleaned, buffed and polished prior to a new finish being applied. This process removes a small amount of the metal that is usually undetectable without a micrometer or other precision equipment such as this handy tool. This gauge fits easily in a pants pocket to carry to a gun shop or a gun show for use before making an informed purchase. Use of this gauge and the fit on each individual gun is not an absolute guarantee that a specific gun is in its original condition nor should it be the only factor in determining whether a gun has been refinished.
